How many 2x4s do I need? Which cuts leave the least waste? Do it on paper and the classic mistake is forgetting the blade kerf, so the board runs out one piece early.
24 × 4 = 96, so it looks like a perfect fit. Three cuts at 1/8 in each eat 3/8 in, and the fourth piece comes out 23 5/8 in.
Every cut subtracts the kerf. End trimming and the minimum usable offcut are part of the plan, so you get the real board count and cut order.
